I don’t know about you, but I am thrilled fall is finally here! No more scorching summer days, we are back to our routine, and the colors are gorgeous.
But that is not all I love about fall.
I love the clothes!!
All summer I wear tees, tanks, and shorts — anything I can to stay cool and comfortable. The good thing about summer is that you can throw something on in the morning and it works all day.
That’s not the same for fall.
You know what I mean. It is the time of the year where it can feel like three seasons in a single day!
6:30 am: 39 outside, and you need a warm coat and maybe some gloves
10:00 am: 52 out, so you don’t need the coat or gloves, but still need something on your arms.
1:30 pm: The temp is 72 and you don’t need anything more than a short-sleeved or lightweight long-sleeved shirt.
Planning what to wear can be tough! My solution —
CREATING LAYERS ON A BUDGET
Being the frugal-minded mom I am, I never like to spend a ton on my clothes. I just can’t do it!
That means I am incredibly picky when it comes to where I shop. I don’t visit high-end stores. I don’t think that what you spend on your clothes matters as much as how they make you feel.
You can check out consignment stores and even may have your favorite go-to retailer (like me). But, I get bored shopping at the same places again and again. I like variety in my wardrobe.
For years, I avoided some sites as I felt that the clothes were for women who were more mature than me. But, I’ve noticed a trend with some of them….they realize this and are creating more styles to appeal to the mature, but younger, woman (you know – 45 and older).
When I heard about the site, I thought they sold things that were not my style at all. It turns out, I was wrong! They have some super cute – and affordable styles!!
That has made my love of fall layers even better. My money goes further, and I get the cute looks I want!
Here’s one example of what I was able to do wear when I was going to a fall wine tasting with my friends this past weekend.
I started by throwing on a stretchy tank. I knew later in the day the temp would be in the mid-60s, so I would want to have a little warmth on my body. (Price was $12.99)
Then, I added a cute pink tunic. It is flannel, but not a heavy flannel. It is warm enough to keep the wind off of my arms but cool enough that I won’t be too hot in the afternoon sun. (Less than $20).
I finished the look by adding a quilted jacket. That way, as the temp rose, I knew I’d be comfortable as I could shed the coat, and the other layers would be perfect! (Price: Less than $50).
Pair this look with some comfy leggings and ankle boots, and I had a look I was going for!
And, since the prices were right, I was able to grab a few other looks as well! Aren’t these cute?!
But I didn’t stop there! With the shopping, baking, and holiday busy time, I wanted a few other looks I could enjoy as well!
We LOVE our firepit! There is nothing like family, good friends, and S’Mores on a cool fall evening!
I also do lots of fall decorating! Pair a tunic, leggings, and the quilted jacket for a cute look — even when planting mums! 😉
Unfortunately, fall is not all about having fun – I have to work too! I grabbed a sweatshirt and threw it on with my tunic and tank so I could get a head start on raking!
The thing is that when you buy a few pieces that work together, you can get a lot of great looks — without spending a fortune. And, they are perfect for work and play!
It’s about checking out sites, such as Blair, to find the right products to get the look you want.
